Process

The Sherman Family Foundation provides grants to organizations aligned to the foundation’s mission with a focus in Baltimore City.  Within this focus on education and opportunities for young people, the foundation prioritizes early childhood, K-12 education, and educator pipelines.

We invite non-profit organizations (501(c)3 organizations) to consider contacting the Sherman Family Foundation about the prospect of applying to the foundation. Applications are by invitation only. Prior to applying, organizations may submit a letter of inquiry to the foundation or be invited by program staff to apply directly. Upon review of the application, the foundation will provide a determination on the grant proposal.

The foundation will consider several types of grants within the foundation’s priority areas as well as those aligned to the foundation’s mission. We typically initiate partnerships with new organizations through a single year gift but will consider multi-year gifts, particularly for programs and organizations that have demonstrated results for program outcomes. The foundation prioritizes applications for programs with evidence of positive outcomes or programs that have a clear theory of action and a clear plan to evaluate outcomes. The foundation will also consider general operating support and capital projects for organizations that have demonstrated outcomes at the program and organizational level. The foundation also has interest in receiving applications to support program evaluation and research of promising interventions and advocacy efforts that align to organizational priorities.
